Our demand for products is insatiable. In order to keep up with this, manufacturers employ various means of production. More specifically, they use machinery to turn raw materials into finished goods that are ready for the consumer market. Heavy machinery and human labour combine in the production of goods. The field of manufacturing is both established and still growing in Bangladesh. In recent years, multi-national organisations have invested heavily in manufacturing within the region to provide strong job growth and expand on an industrial scale. As consumers’ disposable incomes increase, they are demanding more and more products created through manufacturing, for example clothing. This is good news for jobs in the area with manufacturing vacancies in Bangladesh at an all time high.
The field of manufacturing is heavily linked to a number of areas. First, engineering plays an important role in the machinery and processes that allow manufacturing to take place. It is also heavily dependent upon market research done in the field of marketing, where consumer demands and perceptions are analysed. These are then fed into the design discipline before they can be manufactured. Since manufactured goods need to make it to their demanded location on time, manufacturing is also heavily linked to the supply chain and jobs in logistics. These are just a few of many related industries – manufacturing plays an essential role in a number of industries.
What roles are available?
Manufacturing vacancies are diverse and a wide variety of positions exist within the job category. Many of the positions require no formal education, meaning that switching to work in manufacturing can be relatively straight forward. A production worker starts/stops machinery, keeps an eye on products and intervenes if faults occur. Machine attendants monitor output and operate sometimes highly technical machinery. Assemblers are responsible for putting together various components of the products on the assembly line. Electricians deal with the electrical component of machinery, ensuring a continuous source of power to stop any hold ups. Manufacturing can be an intense environment, especially when machinery breaks down. Maintenance roles are about trying to prevent breakdowns and acting fast to put things right if something goes wrong. Once goods are produced, they often require warehousing until they are actually shipped to their selling location, and this is where warehouse workers come in. If you have experience in the industry, you can work your way up to a production supervisor position, whereby you are responsible for what goes on on the factory floor.
What do I need to get a job in manufacturing?
For the most part, no formal education is required to work in manufacturing. Operating machinery is more often about competence with tools and experience learned on the job than specific academic education. That being said, if you want to work in a more senior position, such as a manufacturing management role, a business degree or similar may be required. Similarly, to work as a machine or process engineer, an engineering qualification probably will be mandatory. An interest in production and how things are put together is helpful but not essential to fill manufacturing vacancies in Bangladesh.
