BLF started as an NGO by a group of trade union leaders and professional social workers who are took the initiative and established the organization. The main reason behind the formation was to put emphasize on capacity building of the trade union and workers. BLF strives to improve the social economic development, human rights situation, human culture and democratic value, empowerment, gender equality and to raise the standard of creativity with education, training, and protection of environment, legal aids, advocacy, rehabilitation and support. It also plays a catalyst role in bridging trade unions, employers, associations, civil society and the government on labour market issues.
The primary task of BLF is the promotion and defense of workers rights and interests, through national and international cooperation between trade unions, global campaigning and advocacy. The BLF adheres to the principles of trade union democracy and independence, as set out in its Constitution. It is governed by two-yearly General Council and an Executive Committee. BLF is also partnering with various national and international bodies, alliances and networks.
